Cameron Diaz Supposedly Rinses Her Plastic Wrap

We subscribe to National Geographic for Kids. I probably won't renew it because my kids don't really read it, and neither do I. But once I was flipping through it and read an interview with Cameron Diaz wherein she discussed environmental issues. It was aimed at kids "doing their part," which I'm all for. Also, for the record, I'm all for Cameron Diaz. She's my age. She's cute and funny. Whatever. I wish her well.

But she went on to say that she actually rinses out plastic wrap after she uses it. I don't believe this for a second! Plastic bags I would believe--but not plastic wrap. Have you ever seen rinsed out plastic wrap? I don't picture Cameron Diaz dealing with rinsed-out plastic wrap. I just don't. Rinsed-out plastic wrap doesn't even cling. It's not worth it to rinse it out. Frankly, I think it's a bold-faced lie.

Which leads me to wonder, is she so out of touch that she thinks rinsing plastic wrap is feasible? Did she mean plastic bags? Does she really wrap her food in clingless, limp, soggy plastic wrap--surely not! Maybe? Does she think the kids who read (or, as the case may be--don't read) National Geographic for Kids won't notice this strange environmental claim? Does she think it will inspire them to make a difference. . . by washing out plastic wrap?

Look, I don't wash out my plastic wrap either--none of us regular people do. You've got nothing to prove, Cameron Diaz! People will love you if you just get a Prius--that seems reasonable for you. Or even if you don't get a Prius. Who cares? I know you think we'll like you more if you say stuff like, "I rinse out my plastic wrap," but we don't--because we just know you are lying. Tell us how much your body wash costs and what all you got for free in your Oscar bag. Maybe we won't love you for it but at least you'll have your integrity.

  1. totally ridiculous. Let's give her the benny and say she probably did it once because she got a little salsa on it and she really meant for it to cover the sour cream. So she did a quick rinse-wipe. And how often is she really handling her leftovers, eh? SO maybe it isn't really a lie because she may have done it once, but I'm not going to believe it's a daily practice.

  2. I would think if she was really environmentally conscious she wouldn't use plastic wrap in the first place.

  3. This is a fascinating puzzle. Do you think it just came off the top of her head? Maybe it was a type o? Maybe she rinses it out after using it to wrap her body in for a quick pre-Oscar slim down?

  4. Uhm, she already owns a Prius.

    I'm just sayin...

  5. I saw an interview with her once on Nickelodeon where she was bragging that she turns off the water when she's shaving her legs in the shower. To this day I don't believe her! What is the connection? Children! She thinks she can change the future or something by lying to our children.

(I still think of Cameron and all her mansions all over the world with all the lights on, and I just can't believe she turns off the water when she's shaving her legs. She probably waxes, anyway.)

  6. She should take lessons from my mil who rinses out empty cereal bags and uses them to store leftovers.

I wrote about your daughter today. Maybe you'll find it as amusing as I did...

  7. That Cameron. She has to be famous, rich, beautiful and perfectly kind to the environment. She can't have it all. I won't let her.

  8. That is freakin hilarious! I don't even know what to say...except she's hot.

  9. My grandma used to rinse out plastic bags. I think that unless you raised children during the depression, you are a big old liar... oh well.

That Cameron Diaz. I also read an article how she doesn't flush the toilet all the time. "If it is yellow, let it mellow, if its brown, flush it down" was the exact quote. Again to save water. Maybe she should flush all the time and NOT buy plastic wrap and all it a wash?

Come to think of it, I don't like that old Cameron anyway...

    Washing plastic wrap is dumb.

But the real tragedy here is the magazines that we get sucked into subscribing to (usually by school fund raisers). National Geographic for kids, Time for kids, People for kids

I always think that my kids will read these things and be inspired and excited to change the world. Most of the time, they don't even open them. Sucker!

  11. Maybe someone should put plastic wrap over Cameron's toilet. It will simultaneously solve the whole rinsing the plastic wrap thing AND the not flushing thing.

  12. I was going to say the same thing re: using plastic wrap in the first place. Or plastic bags. She should be putting everything in glass jars. Or something.

I don't have anything against her particularly but I have heard a lot of quotes/stories about her along these lines that just seem silly.

  13. I can see my parents washing plastic wrap. Not because it's good for the environment, but to save $.04. I think it stems from the fact that they lived through the depression and have have kept literally EVERYTHING they find. If my dad sees a box on the side of the road, he will pull over and see what's in it and keep it. He'd keep the box as well because it could be used for something. Their Tupperware consists of old used cottage cheese and sour cream containers from 1992.

Back to the topic. It's crap like this that actually makes me want to go buy plastic wrap and toss it all over the rain forest. I can't imagine how hard it would be to wash plastic wrap. It proves to me that Hollywood is getting dumber and dumber by the minute.

I'm guessing she doesn't even have leftovers (does she even eat?) that would require plastic wrap, which, by the way, is hard enough to use the first time (it always ticks to itself while you're trying to get it over the top of what-have-you).

Who on this green (or not-so-green as the case may be) planet would bother using it twice?

    Not me. Definitely not Cameron.

  15. For all the unbelievers, my Mom said that when they were first married and poor she would wash and re-use plastic wrap--and this was 60's, not Great Depression era. She feels a little silly admitting that she used to do that. I'll have to ask her if she hung it up to dry.
