With Six You Get Egg Roll

I am so mad at this lady who sells plates of her so-called "egg rolls" door to door on my street. She seems like this nice Asian mom who is industrious and hard-working. I was excited to buy her wares and try them. She was so demure with her bangs and her black Keds. Is it racist that I assumed she made great egg rolls?

So I bought a plate of her egg rolls last year and they were terrible. They aren't like frozen Ling Ling from Costco at all. They have lima beans in them. Lima beans, green beans, and peas. And sprouts. That's it. We bought them again this year. What a racket. If I wanted to eat a gross salad I would have made one.

  1. Maybe that is authentic - and what we get is fake?

I hate lima beans, though, so I feel your pain.

  3. You have an egg roll peddler in your neighborhood? I don't blame you for not being able to resist.

  5. Wow, beans in egg rolls. I mean, I know it happens, but usually its a themed egg roll. Like the southwest egg roll that has black beans and I have heard of vegetarian egg rolls having chick peas, but lima beans? Odd. Its sounds she made 3 bean salad, and rolled it into an egg roll.

Maybe she only sells them because she thought they tasted gross and didn't want to throw them away? (I am trying to give her the benefit of the doubt since I would have been sucked in as well.)

  6. Hey do ya’ll remember that Laffy Taffy joke:
Q: How do you make an egg roll?
    A: With Lima Beans!
    I never got those.

  7. In my old neighborhood, a lady used to come around selling tamales. You just couldn't resist it. And they were awesome. It was better than the ice cream truck. That's what I get for growing up 5 miles north of Mexico.
But lima beans in egg rolls? That seems a little off. Stick to the ones from Costco.

  8. Oh Kacy, you're not the only sucker on the block. I bought those darn things too and tried to feed them to the kids one day. It obviously didn't fly with them once they discovered it was filled with veggies. Now that I know she comes around every year, I'll be prepared for her next year.

  11. I LOVE "With Six You Get Egg Roll." Or loved. I wonder if I would think it was as funny if I watched it now. It's been a few years.

  12. The racism is not in your expection, it was in your patronage the second time around. Irish guilt.

What kind of peddler of fast food visits only once a year? I have a feeling you would have liked them had she only included a sugary dipping sauce.
