Gratitude Journal--Ace Bandages

Well, Christian is out of town again for two days and so I did something I've been wanting to do for a couple of days now, and that is wrap my wrist in an ace bandage because it has been sore. I don't know if it hurts because of some kind of computer mouse-related repetitive stress syndrome or if it is because I did a backbend at my daughter's request and nearly broke my spine (and wrist) but it really hurts when it moves and so, to immobilize it I took my cue from the hundreds of "drama freaks" that I went to high school with who always seemed to come to school with one body part or another wrapped in some sort of bandage.

I don't really understand why being really into drama gives you a predisposition to bandaging yourself. It could have been method acting. Or maybe being in plays and practicing monologues is fraught with more hazards than I realized. Famous actors are always talking about how "hard" it is (Gwyneth Paltrow included) to practice their "craft." I wonder if that's why they wear bandages so often. One time a girl in my English class took on the persona of a Cockney maid for a day. That didn't seem physically dangerous, even though it caused me a lot of discomfort (nothing that would require an ace bandage, however).

At any rate, it feels good to wear this bandage and I may start doing it more often because I like it. 'At's royt, it makes me 'and feel bet-uh.

  1. I'm sure that if Christian knew you had bandaged yourself ala cockney maid, he'd rush home immediately to have you committed to a mental institution (or I guess you could just check yourself in ala a CERTAIN young woman that we know and love). I'm sorry you are having so many health problems: bronchitis, migraines (real ones) and now dramatic bandage disorder.

  2. Are you not wearing the bandage in public? I like to wear ace bandages (when I NEED to) because they feel like a hug...a nice constant hug. Maybe they remind us of being in the womb...you're just a mess this week. i 'ope yeh get be'ah...so we can go cahllect li'ol me'ol bo'ol tops...

  4. A drama-flag thrower type girl in my ward has been wearing an ace bandage on her knee for the past two months. Everyday my sister and I would writhe in agony when we saw it. She, having the guts that I do not, finally asked about it. The girl did not wear it the next day.

  5. If my 4 year old son suffers ANY type of fall, bump, bruise, stumble, whatever, he immediately asks for a Band-Aid. In an attempt to be frugal, I use to deny his constant pleadings with the words, "Show me the blood my boy. Show me the blood" and then the tantrum over nothing would continue for a very long time. Now I slap a band-aid on him without a single hesitation. It spares me headaches and obviously has a very powerful psychological effect on my son...plus have you looked at what it costs to get therapy these days? Much cheaper to just slap on the band-aids.

  6. So is this a non-bloody stigmata sort of thing, these aches and ace bandages?

  7. I hope you are doing better. After my breakdancing/headstanding incident recently, I could have used a large ACE bandage on my head.
